A double matchday for Argentina in Azerbaijan
Argentina’s men’s U-15 national team will play its final two group-stage fixtures on Monday, October 26, 2026, at FIFA’s U-15 World Cup and Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan. According to the schedule published by the Argentine Football Association, the team will face Suriname at 04:30 Argentina time —11:30 in Baku— and Malawi at 11:15 Argentina time —18:15 in Baku—. Both matches are scheduled for the Hovsan Competition Complex.
The matches follow a strong day for Argentina. AFA reported that the team beat Chinese Taipei 1-0 on October 25 through an Ezequiel Garfagnoli goal, and then defeated Oman 5-1 with goals from Renzo Gonella, Garfagnoli three times, and Joaquín Reinoso. Argentina had opened the tournament on October 24 with a 1-0 loss to Algeria.
What kind of tournament the U-15 team is playing
FIFA presents Azerbaijan 2026 as the first edition of the FIFA U-15 World Cup & Festival. The competition began on October 24 in Baku and runs through October 30, with 189 boys’ teams from FIFA member associations taking part, according to FIFA’s published information.
The format is not the same as a senior World Cup. FIFA said matches are played eight-a-side on reduced-size pitches, with two 20-minute halves, rolling substitutions and kick-ins instead of throw-ins. The initial qualifying phase then leads into a final phase divided into levels.
Why this youth stop matters
For Argentina, the event is an international development competition at a formative age, with a compact schedule and opponents from different confederations. It should not be judged by senior national-team standards: its value lies in early competitive experience, global exposure and adaptation to rules designed for player development.
The team’s schedule also offers a way to follow Argentina beyond its established stars. In a sports agenda often dominated by top-flight football and senior figures, the U-15 side has an October 26 matchday that may shape its path in FIFA’s first global tournament for the age group.
