Start with just one thing

A neighbourhood, a film, an exhibition or a meal. Begin with what really interests you and build your plan around it. If you try to fit everything into one afternoon, you will probably enjoy less of it.

Think about how long you want to be out and how you will get home. Having those two things sorted makes it easier to be spontaneous about the rest.

Check what might change

Before heading out, check opening hours and entry requirements directly with the venue or organiser. If you need a reservation, confirm it through the official channel.

Save the address and have an alternative in case the weather changes or the plan falls through. You do not need to organise every minute; just avoid the surprises you can anticipate.

Leave some time unplanned

The space between two activities counts too. It might be a walk, a long conversation or an improvised stop. Sometimes it turns out to be the best part.

And if you would rather stay close to home, that works too. A good weekend does not need a spectacular photograph to have been worthwhile.
