JetSMART Chile authorized to operate domestic and international flights in Argentina

What was authorized

Argentina’s Official Gazette published Disposition 27/2026 on October 14, 2026. Issued by the Air Transport Undersecretariat, it authorizes Chilean carrier JetSMART Airlines S.p.A. to operate scheduled domestic and international air transport services for passengers and cargo, in combined form.

The rule, signed in the City of Buenos Aires on October 7, covers a generic route linking previous points, intermediate points, points in Argentine territory and points beyond. It also grants traffic rights from the third to the ninth freedom, a technical framework that allows different combinations of international flights, connections and operations within the country.

What could change for passengers

The national government said on October 14 that the measure enables domestic flights within Argentina and broadens the scope for international operations. In practical terms, it opens the door to more air connectivity options, although regulatory authorization alone does not mean flights are already available.

The official statement also said that, following this authorization, the airline plans to add operations connecting Santiago de Chile with Rio de Janeiro and Florianópolis, with a stop at Aeroparque Jorge Newbery in Buenos Aires. Those sources did not report start dates, frequencies, fares or ticket sales.
