TramBus in Caballito and Almagro: what changes on September 15.

What changes and when

Starting Tuesday, September 15, 2026, traffic changes are planned on streets in Caballito and Almagro due to the arrival of the TramBus T1, according to Buenos Aires City in a notice published on September 3.

The key point for residents, drivers, bus passengers and shop owners is that this is not only about ongoing works: there will also be specific changes to street directions, parking rules and part of bus line 2’s route.

Streets with new traffic directions

Avenida La Plata, between Chaco/Quito and Avenida Rivadavia, will become one-way toward Avenida Rivadavia. It is one of the most noticeable changes because it affects a heavily used link between Caballito, Almagro and the Rivadavia area.

José Mármol, between Avenida Rivadavia and Hipólito Yrigoyen, will become one-way toward Hipólito Yrigoyen. Hipólito Yrigoyen between Muñiz and José Mármol will also change, becoming a two-way street.

On Quito, between Avenida La Plata and Muñiz, one-way traffic will run toward Muñiz. On Pringles, between Lezica and Avenida Rivadavia, one-way traffic will run toward Avenida Rivadavia. If you usually move through the area from memory, it is worth checking your route before leaving.

Parking and turns: what to double-check

Parking rules will also change from September 15. On Avenida La Plata, parking will be banned 24 hours a day on both sides, while on Quito parking will be banned on the left-hand side.

In addition, drivers traveling on Hipólito Yrigoyen from Avenida La Plata toward José Mármol will not be allowed to turn left onto Muñiz. That detail may affect short neighborhood trips, especially at busier times.

How it affects bus line 2

Bus line 2 will modify part of its route because of the direction change on Quito between Avenida La Plata and Muñiz. According to the official notice, it will run along Quito, Quintino Bocayuva and Avenida Rivadavia, and then continue on its usual route.

If you use that line to connect with the subway, train or short walks around Rivadavia, the safest option is to check your usual stop the day before and again on Tuesday the 15th. The official notice confirms the route change, but operational adjustments may appear during implementation.

What the TramBus T1 is

Buenos Aires City presents the TramBus system as an electric and sustainable mode of transport. In the institutional information reviewed, the City says a pilot test has already begun along the route of branch C of bus line 34.

As project background, the T1 is planned to connect Costanera/Aeroparque with the Sáenz transfer hub and pass through neighborhoods including Palermo, Villa Crespo, Caballito, Almagro, Parque Chacabuco, Boedo, Parque Patricios and Nueva Pompeya.
