A birthday with a public program

Charly García turned 75 on Friday, October 23, 2026, and the City of Buenos Aires marked the date with “Semana Charly,” a tribute program running through Sunday, October 25, according to the official city page published on Thursday, October 22.

The official program brought together music, talks, a photo exhibition, reinterpretations of songs and a special book selection. The agenda named venues including the Parque Centenario Amphitheater, Casa de la Cultura, Centro Cultural Recoleta, Museo de la Ciudad, Usina del Arte and Centro Cultural 25 de Mayo.

The city as an archive of a body of work

Carlos Alberto García Moreno was born on October 23, 1951, in the City of Buenos Aires. The anniversary therefore became a public program located in the same city where his story began.

His path includes Sui Generis, La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros, Serú Girán and his solo work. That continuity makes Semana Charly more than a birthday celebration: it is also a way of bringing different stages of his music back into public circulation.

An agenda with dates and venues

As of Saturday, October 24, 2026, the program still had activities scheduled through Sunday, October 25. The scene was specific: an institutional Buenos Aires tribute organized around Charly García’s career and his historical connection with the city.

The program’s value was in bringing together, across public venues in the city, different entry points into his work: concerts, conversations, images, versions of songs and selected books accompanying the commemoration.
