The 41st edition now has a full map
The 41st edition of the Mar del Plata International Film Festival was officially launched by Argentina’s Secretariat of Culture and INCAA on October 19, 2026, and will run from November 5 to 15 in Mar del Plata.
The concrete update for Argentine film followers is that the full program has now been published: the festival announced 150 films, including features and shorts, across 10 screens. That shifts the story beyond the earlier date confirmation, because audiences can now start sorting through competitions, interests and possible viewing priorities.
Opening film, closing film and Argentine presence
The opening film will be “Caballo salvaje nueve / Wild Horse Nine” by Martin McDonagh, while the closing film will be “Borges and Me”, directed by Marc Turtletaub. Both are listed in the festival’s official program.
The Argentine Feature Competition includes titles such as “Cebar, frenar, llorar”, “Chejov en Rosario”, “El Diego que nadie vio”, “Perfume” and “Sin placa”, among others. For an edition held outside Buenos Aires but serving as a national showcase, that section remains a useful reference point for tracking which local stories are entering the festival circuit.
Awards and institutional frame
According to the official announcement, the festival will present Astor Piazzolla lifetime achievement awards to Emilio Kauderer, Natalia Oreiro and Alejandro Agresti. Kauderer received the recognition during the launch, while the other two will be honored during the festival.
The event is organized by INCAA and accredited by FIAPF, according to the official rules. Details on tickets, availability and exact screening times should be checked through the festival’s official channels.
