Monday the 9th schedule in Palermo

On Monday, November 9, a large Mass will take place at the Monumento de los Españoles, at the crossing of Libertador and Sarmiento in Palermo. The ceremony, led by Pope Leo XIV, starts at 11:30 and is the reason for a traffic operation that has already changed the area.

According to Ámbito, the day follows a fixed timetable. Pedestrian access to the grounds opens at midnight and animation activities begin at 7. The popemobile arrives at 10 through the Libertador tunnel, the Mass starts at 11:30, and at 1 pm the ceremony ends and the dispersal begins.

Inside the grounds there will be tents for the Eucharist, places to eat, spots to drink water and health care posts.

Where you can enter and where you can leave

There are seven points open both for entering and for leaving. They are the crossings of Bullrich with Santa Fe, Ortega y Gasset with Luis María Campos, Olleros with Luis María Campos, Teodoro García with Luis María Campos, Virrey Vértiz with José Hernández, Olleros with Valentín Alsina, Dorrego with Figueroa Alcorta, and Levillier with Figueroa Alcorta.

The access at Virrey Vértiz and José Hernández is interrupted two hours before the procession arrives. To make the exit smoother, there are also three exit-only passages: Gorostiaga, Maure and Dorrego, all toward Luis María Campos.

Closures and detours on Libertador and nearby streets

The closures have advanced in stages for days. According to Ámbito, on Thursday the 5th Libertador was closed between Bullrich and Ortega y Gasset, adding to the stretch already cut between Sarmiento and Bullrich. Dorrego, between Cerviño and Figueroa Alcorta, and Bullrich, between Cerviño and Libertador, were also closed.

On Friday the 6th, from midnight, the closure continues north: Libertador is shut between Ortega y Gasset and Olleros, along with several cross streets such as Maure, Gorostiaga, Jorge Newbery and Federico Lacroze, in the stretches near the avenue.

To relieve Sarmiento, the city set up a 200-meter contraflow lane on Figueroa Alcorta that runs from Sarmiento to Casares. Recommended alternatives include Lugones, the Illia highway and the Costanera, or going down General Paz toward Cabildo, Santa Fe or Las Heras.

No toll is charged on the Illia or the Paseo del Bajo for light vehicles until Wednesday at 2 pm. On the Paseo del Bajo, motorcycles may not circulate.

Trains, buses and medical care

On transit, Ámbito reports that national buses in the AMBA run on weekday frequency from 6 pm on Sunday the 8th until Wednesday night the 11th. The seven rail lines, including Sarmiento, Mitre, Roca and San Martín, use a weekday timetable from Monday the 9th to Wednesday the 11th, with special early-morning services.

Two stations, 3 de Febrero and Lisandro de la Torre, stay closed, with no boarding or alighting, from Saturday the 7th at 6 pm until early Thursday the 12th. The Mitre and San Martín lines run in split sections, with temporary terminals at Villa del Parque, Caseros, Belgrano R and Belgrano C.

Along the avenue there will be 28 SAME ambulances, one every 100 meters, with odd numbers on the side of the woods and the Rosedal and even numbers on the Cañitas side. Two mobile hospitals, one behind the stage and another at the Campo Argentino de Polo, will have 20 stretchers each.

What changes for you

If you live or work in Palermo, expect closures on Libertador from Thursday the 5th through Wednesday. If you plan to attend the Monday the 9th Mass, enter from midnight through one of the seven access points, and remember that Virrey Vértiz and José Hernández closes two hours earlier.

To arrive by train, keep in mind that two stations in the area do not operate from Saturday the 7th at 6 pm. By car, the Illia and the Paseo del Bajo charge no toll until Wednesday at 2 pm.
