What opened on the Puente Labruna

The works that complete the road connections of the Puente Labruna are finished, and the new access and exit ramps are already working. According to Clarín, more than 350 thousand people a day use that northern corridor to enter and leave the City. The change is felt at the crossing between Avenida Cantilo and Avenida Lugones.

From now on, anyone coming along Cantilo can cross toward the Parque de Innovación, which sits across from the Monumental stadium of River Plate. Also, from Ciudad Universitaria it is possible to enter Lugones. That closes the set of road connections the project had planned.

The bridge had a single lane in each direction. With the new structure it now has two lanes each way, which according to Clarín doubles the chance to get across the railway tracks and the two avenues, Lugones and Cantilo.

How traffic changes

Drivers on Cantilo can get onto the Labruna with a new ramp and head back toward Lugones, but going the opposite way. There is also an exit toward Udaondo, which makes it easier to reach the Parque de Innovación and the River ground.

For those leaving Ciudad Universitaria there is now a direct access to Lugones, made by crossing the bridge. A new pedestrian footbridge also opened, 4 meters wide, that is, 2.5 times the previous one. It has a new access to the Ciudad Universitaria train station.

What is still under construction

The bike lane and the pedestrian path that will run along a central lane of the new bridge are not finished yet. That path will be a crossing to reach the river more easily and more safely. Near the station, work also continues to finish the bike path.

The next stages include a 240-meter bike lane and the widening of Campos Salles, with a service road at the eastern end of the Parque de la Innovación. The service road will separate the traffic returning toward Udaondo from the traffic trying to get up to Lugones. Landscaping and final details on the bridge and around it will follow.

Earlier, on May 29, the widening of the bridge had already gone into operation. Opening the ramps is the step that was missing to complete the road connections.

An area in transformation

When the La Pampa underpass and its pedestrian ring are finished, the effect of the Labruna will be greater, because it will be another way to join Belgrano and Palermo with the Costanera. Through the tunnel there will be two lanes for cars in each direction, which buses will also be able to use, and the ring will have bike lanes. It will also have a lookout toward Aeroparque, and part of the route will run underground.

The work is also key for the Parque de la Innovación, where there will be residential buildings, offices and universities. The Parque de la Memoria, located on the waterfront, also ends up better connected. Institutions in the area include the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, the CeNARD, the CUBA club and the UBA with its Ciudad Universitaria.

Other neighbors along the corridor are the Club Ciudad de Buenos Aires, the Liceo Naval Graduates Center and the Belgrano Norte station that carries the name Ciudad Universitaria.

Useful facts

The new accesses link Avenida Cantilo, Avenida Lugones, Udaondo and Ciudad Universitaria, in the northern part of the City. If you come along Cantilo and want to head back toward Lugones, use the new Labruna ramp. If you leave Ciudad Universitaria, you can now cross the bridge and enter Lugones directly.

Pedestrians have a footbridge 4 meters wide that reaches the Ciudad Universitaria station. The bike lane and the pedestrian path are still under construction, so it is best to wait until they are finished to use them. Always check the signs on site before changing your usual route.
