What goes up on Sunday, November 1
From Sunday, November 1, the subway and buses under city and provincial jurisdiction go up, and tolls on the city highways become more expensive too. According to Clarín, the increase is 3.9% for the subway and city buses and 1.9% on highways, while provincial buses rise 5.02%.
National lines, which run between the City and the Province, are left out. After an agreement with the business chambers, their fare will stay frozen for at least November. That widens the gap in fares among the buses of the three jurisdictions that run through the AMBA.
The city's scheme adjusts every month by the INDEC consumer price index plus 2% for the subway and buses, and by inflation alone for tolls. Clarín notes that it is not yet known whether the decision to freeze national lines will change the city's upcoming updates.
The same paper cites official figures: each year the City puts about US$ 390 million into the system, split into US$ 170 million for buses and US$ 220 million for the subway.
Subway: from $1,817 to $1,887
A subway ride, which costs $1,817 today, will cost $1,887 starting Sunday, a value that brings each trip close to $2,000. Frequent riders keep tiered discounts of 20%, 30% and 40%, with thresholds of 20, 30 and 40 trips.
Red SUBE discounts also remain when trips are combined with city buses. The special fares integrated into the card stay in force: the Social Fare, the Student Ticket, the Student Fare and the Teacher Fare, along with benefits for people with disabilities, transplant recipients, retirees and pensioners.
For December, according to Clarín, the Trambus is scheduled to open, with an integrated fare for riders who combine it with the subway.
City and provincial buses
There are 27 bus lines under city jurisdiction. With the SUBE card, the fare stays tiered by distance in four bands: 0 to 3 kilometers, 3 to 6, 6 to 12 and 12 to 27 kilometers. Those who pay with cards or NFC technology keep an average fare, halfway between the minimum and the maximum value.
In the Province, buses under provincial jurisdiction also rise from November 1, by 5.02%. The minimum value refers to the first band, from 0 to 3 kilometers. The exact amounts for each band are in the official fare tables of each jurisdiction.
Tolls and city highways
Tolls on the city's highways rise 1.9% in November, an adjustment that follows inflation alone and does not add the extra 2% that applies to the subway and buses. The increase covers Perito Moreno, 25 de Mayo and Illia.
AUSA manages 50 kilometers of highways: 29 with tolls and 21 free. Among the toll-free stretches are Cantilo, Lugones, Frondizi, Dellepiane and the AU 7 Cámpora. The system works without barriers and the main way to pay is TelePASE.
Drivers not yet enrolled can use the prepaid Daily Pass, which must be arranged at least three hours in advance, or TelePASE by license plate.
What changes for you
If you ride the subway, from Sunday, November 1 each trip costs $1,887 instead of $1,817, with the same frequency discounts. If you use city buses, the fare rises 3.9%, and if you take provincial lines, 5.02%.
National lines do not change in November. If you drive on the city's toll highways, make sure you have TelePASE; without it, the prepaid Daily Pass must be arranged three hours ahead. It is best to confirm the amounts for each band in the official fare table before you travel.
