A meeting to listen and research

The National University of San Martín will hold the second Argentine Music Congress on October 8 and 9, 2026 at its Miguelete Campus in San Martín, Buenos Aires province. UNSAM’s School of Art and Heritage announced it as an event open to the public, free of charge and requiring prior registration.

The congress aims to bring together musicians, researchers and artists around a question often left outside the concert calendar: how Argentine music is studied, created and discussed within the university. The official announcement frames the event around the link between musical practice, production and research.

Tango, folk music and song as a field of work

Among the participants announced by UNSAM are Abel Tesoriere, Andrés Pilar, Flor Bobadilla Oliva, Florencia Dávalos, Georgina Hassan, Guillermo Fernández, Juan Falú, Ramiro Gallo and Teresa Parodi, among others. The list places the congress at a broad intersection of performance, composition, research and the transmission of popular repertoires.

The institutional setting also matters: UNSAM’s degree in Argentine Music focuses on arrangement and performance in tango and Argentine folk music, with technical, theoretical, historical and methodological training. In that context, the congress highlights a less visible side of live music: music as craft, archive, debate and knowledge production.

Why it matters now

Scheduled to begin on October 8, the event offers an entry point into a specific conversation: Argentine music not only as stage programming, but also as a practice of public education and academic production.

Prior registration is part of the conditions announced by the university. To plan a visit to the Miguelete Campus, the practical reference is the official congress page published by UNSAM.
